What are therapeutic groups?

Therapeutic groups are spaces where a small number of people regularly gather, guided by a therapist, to address and work on specific issues related to their emotional and mental well-being. These groups offer a safe and supportive environment where participants can share their experiences, feel understood, and learn new ways to cope with life's challenges.

In a therapeutic group, participants have the opportunity to connect with others who may be experiencing similar situations, which can provide them with a sense of belonging and camaraderie. Additionally, by sharing and listening to others' experiences, new perspectives and solutions to personal problems can be obtained.

Therapists use a variety of techniques and therapeutic approaches to help participants achieve their goals and work toward greater emotional well-being. They create a safe and supportive environment where participants feel comfortable sharing their experiences and emotions and encourage open and honest communication, encouraging group members to express themselves freely.

They also provide information on relevant topics and offer participants practical tools to cope with the emotional and mental challenges of the group. They design and lead therapeutic activities that help participants explore their emotions, identify negative thought patterns, and develop new ways to cope with challenges. These activities may include mindfulness exercises, role-playing, therapeutic writing, among others.

Additionally, therapists work with participants to establish individual and group therapeutic goals and support them on their path to personal growth and emotional well-being. They offer constructive feedback and encourage self-reflection and self-discovery.

Therapeutic Group for Social Skills and Self-Esteem

Discover our exciting therapeutic group for children aged 8 to 12, focused on the development of social skills and self-esteem!

In our therapeutic group, we focus on fostering strong social skills in boys and girls, providing them with the necessary tools to interact effectively with their peers. Additionally, we offer resources and techniques to families to support the development of their children's self-esteem and social skills, complementing the work done in the group. Our goal is to strengthen the participants' self-esteem by providing a supportive and empowering environment where they can discover and enhance their personal worth. Through carefully designed activities, we promote self-awareness and recognition of individual skills, fostering a positive self-image and belief in each participant's ability to achieve their goals. Additionally, our group offers the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with other children in similar situations, fostering friendships within a safe and supportive space. We are excited to embark on this journey with you and your children, and we hope that this group will be an enriching and transformative experience for all.

What Will We Work on in the Group?

The group will consist of 7 sessions, in which participants will learn to cultivate a positive self-image and strengthen their self-confidence, emotional education, and empathy, providing them with the skills to identify and manage their emotions while learning to show empathy towards others' feelings. In our sessions, we will also focus on improving communication techniques, teaching them to express themselves clearly and confidently, as well as to master the ability to give and receive constructive criticism. Throughout the program, we will address conflict resolution, providing them with strategies to face challenges positively and constructively. Finally, we will celebrate our achievements together, further strengthening their self-esteem and recognizing their successes.

You can download here the program summary, which includes a description of what will be worked on in each session. Feel free to consult this resource for a more comprehensive view of our approach and the specific objectives of each session!

Although individual sessions are available, we recommend participation in the full group due to several key factors. Firstly, the group's design is carefully crafted to cover all key areas of social skills and work on self-esteem from various perspectives, ensuring a more comprehensive and meaningful learning experience. Additionally, one of the main strengths of the workshop lies in the opportunity to create genuine friendships and connections among the children throughout the 7 sessions, significantly contributing to their social and emotional development. Lastly, by attending the full group, we will be able to closely monitor the progress of each participant and prepare a personalized report highlighting their progress and specific areas for improvement, maximizing the benefits of the program for each child. However, we understand that unforeseen circumstances may arise that make regular attendance difficult. For this reason, we offer the option of individual sessions for those with conflicting commitments or any other reason that may prevent them from participating in the full program.

How Many Children Will Be in Each Group?

In our therapeutic group, we have established an ideal size of between 6 and 8 children per group. We believe that this number is optimal as it allows us to implement effective social strategies while maintaining an intimate and supportive environment. With a group of this size, we can offer individualized attention to each child, allowing us to conduct individual assessments, closely monitor their development and progress, and focus on their specific needs. Additionally, it enables us to effectively establish individual and group goals, thereby fostering significant emotional and social growth for each participant.

How Do You Know If Your Child Can Benefit From the Group?

Determining whether your child can benefit from the therapeutic group involves observing various aspects of their emotional and social development. Some signs that may indicate that your child could benefit from the group include:

  • Difficulties in social relationships: It can manifest through extreme shyness, difficulty making friends, or interacting with others appropriately.

  • Low self-esteem: may be reflected in lack of self-confidence, constant self-criticism or validation seeking, negative perceptions of one's own abilities and qualities...

  • Communication problems: may include difficulties expressing thoughts and feelings clearly, as well as understanding social cues and others' intentions.

  • Emotional difficulties: can manifest in sudden mood changes, feelings of sadness, anxiety, or intense anger without an apparent cause, or difficulty managing and/or expressing his/her emotions.

  • Behavioral problems: may include challenging behaviors, aggression, difficulties following instructions, or adapting to new or changing situations.

If you are unsure whether your child can benefit from our therapeutic group, we invite you to contact our therapy team. We will be happy to provide you with more information and guide you through the assessment process. Our qualified professionals can conduct a more comprehensive evaluation to determine whether participation in our therapeutic group is suitable for your child's specific needs.

Will Parents Be Involved?

Of course! In the group, we not only involve children in their growth and development, but also parents! We firmly believe in the importance of working collaboratively with families to maximize the benefits of the program. That's why, in addition to sessions for children, we also provide tools and exercises for parents to work on at home the skills we've been developing in the group. Moreover, parents are invited to the exciting diploma ceremony at the end of the program! On this occasion, they will receive a detailed individual report on their child's progress and identified areas for improvement. And that's not all – parents will also have the opportunity to speak with our psychologist whenever they need to closely monitor their children's progress and receive additional guidance. At MS Centro Psicología, we believe in teamwork for the success of every child and their family!

In what language is the program conducted?

Currently, our therapeutic group is conducted exclusively in Spanish. However, we are considering the possibility of offering English-language options in the future to meet the needs of a broader audience. If you are interested in sessions in English or would like to receive updates about future language options, please don't hesitate to let us know. We value your feedback and are committed to exploring all possibilities to ensure that our therapeutic group is accessible to everyone. Thank you for your understanding and patience as we work to expand our language options!
